Local traffic yard

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The local public transport in Hof consists largely of the city bus network of the municipal transport company. There is also a regional bus network , which is mostly served by private companies. There are also several rail connections to the surrounding area. The most important transfer points are the bus station and the main train station as well as the Hof-Mitte stop in the future.

history

Hofer horse bus

From 1887 to 1901 horse-drawn buses operated in the city. From 1901 on, the Hof tram connected the main train station with the cemetery. In 1925 operations were discontinued and the bus line was operated. In 1934, the VAG Nuremberg introduced a bus route network that was taken over by the city of Hof a year later. In the period that followed, the fleet grew considerably: in 1949 there were ten, in 1960 15 and in 1971 22 buses. In 1998 the city founded the subsidiary HofVerkehr GmbH, which shares the location on Unterkotzauer Weg with the Bachstein transport company . The traffic is now served by HofBus GmbH, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Stadtwerke Hof. In 2018, free WiFi was installed in all buses in a pilot project . Two hybrid buses have been in test operation since 2019 .

tram

A tram operated in Hof from 1901 to 1921. This drove four kilometers from the main train station via the old town to Ludwigstrasse in the new town , to the town hall and across the Lower Stone Bridge to the cemetery next to Theresienstein. The tram ran every ten minutes; before the First World War , the cycle was reduced to eight minutes.

Hofer tram

The depot was located next to the later-built Siemens & Halske power station on Oberen Anger. In 1920 the company was temporarily shut down for financial reasons, and in 1922 it was completely shut down. Omnibuses operated on the line from 1925.

Autonomous bus

Autonomous bus

For years, the city has also been planning to use an autonomous electric bus that will run between the main train station , the old town and Ludwigstrasse . The idea makes sense because the old town is a pedestrian zone and it would enable people with walking disabilities to stay mobile in the city center. The autonomous bus would travel the same route as the tram until 1921.

In spring 2020, Federal Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer handed over the state funding for the Upper Franconian shuttle model region project in Rehau . In Hof, Kronach and Rehau, self-driving buses are due to start testing for two years from 2020. In addition to government subsidies, the project is supported by universities, Rehau AG and Deutsche Bahn, among others. The vehicles produced by Navya will receive their software from Valeo , the company will lead the project.
