Bani Suwaif ( Arabic محافظة بني سويف, DMG Muḥāfaẓat Banī Suwaif , Egyptian-Arabic Muḥāfẓet Beni Suef ) or Beni Suef is a governorate in Egypt with 3,154,100 inhabitants and is located in Central Egypt .

It borders in the north on the governorates of al-Fayyum and al-Jiza , in the east on the governorate al-Bahr al-ahmar , in the south on the governorate al-Minya and in the west on the governorate al-Jiza. The eastern part of the governorate extends into the Arabian desert . The administrative center is Bani Suwaif (Beni Suef).
