Barry Michael Church (* 11. February 1988 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania ) is American American football poker players. He most recently played in the position of Strong Safety for the Jacksonville Jaguars in the National Football League (NFL).
college
Church played from 2006 to 2009 at the University of Toledo College Football for the Toledo Rockets in the Mid-American Conference (MAC). Church became the first Rocket player and the third MAC player to be named Fist Team All-MAC each year . In his first season he was able to set 71 tackles and intercept four passes, with two of these passes being carried back to touchdowns , setting a school record. In 2007 he scored 92 tackles and caught three interceptions. The following season he was able to set 93 tackles and force three fumbles . In his final season for the Rockets, he made it onto the official watch list for the Bronco Nagurski Award (best defense player) and was a semi-finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award (best defensive back ). This season he was able to achieve 98 tackles. In 2016 Church was inducted into the UT Varsity "T" Hall of Fame , the hall of fame of the Toledo Rockets .
An anniversary team was elected in 2017 for the 100th anniversary of the Rockets. Church ended up in sixth place.
NFL
Dallas Cowboys
After Church was not selected in the 2010 NFL Draft , the Dallas Cowboys signed him . He played his first professional game on August 8, 2010, when he defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 16: 7 with the Cowboys in the preseason . He only missed one game in his rookie season. He developed into a key substitute in the 2011 season before being placed on the Injured Reserve List on December 13, 2011 due to a shoulder injury . In 2012 he was named a starter in the position of Strong Safety. However, he had to temporarily give up this position after the third game day, as he suffered an Achilles tendon rupture in the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers . Nonetheless, on October 28, 2012, the Cowboys extended Church's contract by four years. In the 2014 season he led the Cowboys with 110 tackles and also had two interceptions.
Jacksonville Jaguars
On March 10, 2017, Jacksonville Jaguars Church committed. Church was the Jaguars' Starting Strong Safety and scored 87 tackles and four interceptions throughout the 2017 season . With the Jaguars he made it to the AFC Championship Game . In the 20:24 defeat, Church caused a helmet-to-helmet contact against Rob Gronkowski , for which he was later fined $ 24,309.
Also in the 2018 season he was the Jaguars' first eleven game starter. After problems in cover, Ronnie Harrison was put on the bench from the 13th day of the game in favor of the rookie . He was finally released by the Jaguars on December 14, 2018.
