Barry Shabaka Henley (born September 15, 1954 in New Orleans ) is an American actor .

life and career

Barry Henley came to acting in film and television relatively late, at the age of 35. Since then he has taken on numerous supporting and guest roles, with the African American being particularly often cast in the role of police officer.

Henley has probably become known to a larger audience through his roles in Michael Mann's films . He has taken on roles in his films several times: in Ali he played the part of Muhammad Ali's manager Herbert Muhammed , in Collateral the jazz musician Daniel and the role of Lt. Martin Castillo in Mann's movie adaptation Miami Vice . In 2004 he hired airport security officer Thurman in Steven Spielberg's Film Terminal . In the 2010s he was seen in the remake of Carrie and in Jim Jarmusch's film Paterson, among others.

He lives in Los Angeles with his wife and son. He was a member of the American West Coast Black Repertory Theater and the San Francisco Mime Troupe . His name Shabaka refers to the 3rd pharaoh of the 25th Kushite dynasty , Shabaka .
