Bartolomeo or Bartholomäus Altomonte (also Hohenberg) (born  February 24, 1694 in Warsaw , † November 11, 1783 in Sankt Florian ) was an Austrian painter and representative of Baroque fresco painting .

Life

Bartolomeo was born in 1694 as the third of six children in a suburb of what is now Warsaw. His father, Martino Altomonte , had previously been appointed to the court of the Polish King Jan Sobieski .

Bartolomeo Altomonte spent most of his life in Linz and worked primarily in Austrian monasteries (such as St. Florian Abbey and Admont Abbey ) or the Herzogenburg Abbey Church, for which a ceiling picture bozzetto was created that was part of the exhibition “Passavia Sacra - St. Stephanus in Art and adoration ”(Passau 1980). He partially implemented his father's designs, but also learned from Daniel Gran . Rococo tendencies remained alien to the artist throughout his life, so he is considered the last great exponent of the baroque allegory .
