The Bavarian spoonwort ( Cochlearia bavarica ) is a member of the cruciferous family (Brassicaceae) that is endemic only in the southern part of Bavaria .
Appearance
Cochlearia bavarica is an evolved hybrid of the Pyrenean spoonbill ( Cochlearia pyrenaica ) and the common spoonbill ( Cochlearia officinalis ). It stands between these types in its appearance.
The herbaceous plant , which is usually perennial , usually reaches heights of 25 to 45 cm. She is completely bald. The upper stalk-enclosing leaves are 4 to 6 cm long. The long-stalked basal leaves are kidney-shaped and usually 2 to 6 cm wide.
The petals are white and up to 7.5 mm long.
The fruit stalks are usually upright from the grape axis. The pods are egg-shaped and usually narrowed at both ends. The style has a length of about 0.4 to 0.8 on ripe fruits, sometimes up to 1 mm.
The seeds are about 1.8 to 2.4 mm long.
Cochlearia bavarica flowers mainly in May and June.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 36.
Location claims, distribution, endangerment, protection projects
The Bavarian spoonwort grows in spring corridors or limestone bogs. It prefers wet, nutrient-poor tufa structures and calcareous, peaty bog soils . According to Dörr and Lippert, it often grows in the Bavarian Allgäu on springy slopes with sinter formation, on ditches and in the banks of streams and small fish ponds, in open areas as well as in mixed forest, there with reduced vitality. It rises to a height of 800 meters.
The species is endemic in Bavaria and occurs only in a few locations in southern Swabia and Upper Bavaria , for example in the Kupferbachtal near Glonn .
Cochlearia bavarica is particularly protected according to the Federal Species Protection Ordinance and is considered to be endangered. The population at Seebach near Obergünzburg, for example, decreased sharply between 1984 and 2014. In Germany, the species is also classified as a national type of responsibility within the national strategy for biological diversity of the federal government.

It is funded within the framework of the federal program for biological diversity , as a national strategy for biological diversity that goes back to the idea of the clearing house mechanism for the implementation of the international biodiversity convention .
