The Beekniederung is a protected landscape area in the Lower Saxon town of Osterholz-Scharmbeck in the Osterholz district .

The protected landscape area is about 46  hectares . It is completely part of the EU bird sanctuary "Hammeniederung" and is surrounded by the following protected areas: the "Teufelsmoor" nature reserve in the south-west, the " Moor bei Niedersandhausen " nature reserve in the north-west and the " Teufelsmoor " nature reserve in the north and east. To the south, the landscape protection area, interrupted by a state road , borders on the “ Hammeniederung ” nature reserve . The area has been under protection since April 20, 2017. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Osterholz.

The conservation area is located northeast of Osterholz-Scharmbeck in the eponymous Beek lowland. It forms together with the surrounding it reserves as well as other natural and protected areas in the field of Hammering lowland and Teufelsmoor a biotope. The area is characterized by extensive grassland , criss-crossed by ditches, on raised and fen soils. The predominantly moist grasslands are used extensively.

The area was originally intended to be part of the “Teufelsmoor” nature reserve. The farmer cultivating the land had spoken out against designation as a nature reserve in the course of the procedure for designating the protected areas. So the area was finally designated as a landscape protection area, supplemented by special provisions for bird protection.

Species-rich riparian vegetation and reed beds can be found along the trenches . The trenches are extensively maintained and contain species-rich aquatic vegetation .

In connection with the surrounding nature and landscape protection areas, the protected area is the habitat of a species-rich flora and fauna. The protected area is of particular importance for the avifauna . So come here and in adjacent areas cane , grain and harrier and short-eared owl before. The white-tailed eagle looks for food in the area. Limikolen are u. a. represented by oystercatchers , lapwing , snipe , black godwit , woodcock , curlew , red and greenshanks as well as various sandpipers , sandpipers and plovers . Furthermore, the corncrake , quail and partridge are native. Divers and mergansers are by grebes , little grebe , red-necked grebe , Smew and mergansers , ducks through various ducks, including shelduck , wigeon , Gadwall , teal , pintail , teal , shoveler , pochard , tufted duck and goldeneye , geese , including gray goose , white-fronted goose , bean goose , Canada goose and barnacle goose as well as swans such as mute swan , whooper swan and pygmy swan are represented. Songbirds are u. a. by skylark , yellow wagtail , brown , blue and stonechat , sedge warbler , reed warbler , redstart , Meadow Pipit , grasshopper warbler , reed bunting and Oriole represented. Also suitable are backed shrike , shrike , white stork , crane , gray herons , egrets and bitterns and various Coot , terns and gulls before.
