Benedikt Wagner (born June 14, 1990 in Bonn ) is a German saber fencer . He is world champion, European champion and five-time German champion .

Life

Wagner fights for TSV Bayer Dormagen , he is a sports soldier ( non-commissioned officer ) in the sports promotion group of the Bundeswehr in Cologne.

As a teenager, he finished second in the German B youth championships in 2004, and in 2010 he won the German junior championship. Internationally, he won the European Junior Championships in Amsterdam and 2009 in Odense with the team, and in 2010 the German team won the World Junior Championships in Baku .

In 2009 Benedikt Wagner competed in the adult class, he achieved silver with the saber team at the German championships . In 2010 he won bronze in the individual at the European Championships in Gdansk . At the European Championships in 2011 , he won against the Russian team together with Nicolas Limbach , Max Hartung and Björn Hübner and received silver behind the Italian team. At the World Championships , the team finished fourth after losing to Russia and Italy . In 2012 he achieved bronze with the team at the European Championships in Legnano .

He qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games in London , where he reached the round of 16 in the individual competition, but was eliminated there against his compatriot Nicolas Limbach with 7:15 goals. With the team he reached fifth place.

In 2012 he won the German team championships together with Benedikt Beisheim , Max Hartung and Matyas Szabo and took second place in the individual standings behind Nicolas Limbach. In 2013 he won the German Championships in singles and with the team, in 2014 with the team.

At the European Championships in Strasbourg in 2014 , he won bronze together with Max Hartung, Richard Hübers and Matyas Szabo. In Kazan , the team with Nicolas Limbach instead of Richard Hübers became world champions .

In 2015 he became team European champion and won bronze with the team at the World Championships in Moscow . In 2016 he became individual European champion and won the 2016 German fencing championships with the team. In 2019 he was again European champion with the team .
