Benjamin Plaickner lives in Gais and starts for GR Sciatori Fiamme Gialle . He has been a member of the Italian national biathlon team since 2010, and his brother Andreas is also a biathlete in the national team. Plaickner contested his first international races as part of the 2010 Biathlon Junior World Championships in Torsby , where he was 41st of the individual, 20th of the sprint, eighth in the pursuit and ninth with the relay of Italy. A year later he was in Nové Město na Moravě 25th of the individual, 18th of the sprint, 21st of the pursuit and won the silver medal in the relay race with Thierry Chenal and Maikol Demetz behind Russia. This was followed by the junior races of the European Biathlon Championships 2011 in Ridnaun . Plaickner missed another relay medal at the side of Alexia Runggaldier , Nicole Gontier and Michael Galassi as fourth in the relay race and was also 34th in the individual, eleventh in the sprint and 13th in the pursuit. In 2012 he was in Kontiolahti 20th of the individual, 55th of the sprint, 59th of the pursuit and 15th with the relay, 2013 in Obertilliach 46th of the individual, 26th of the sprint and 51st of the pursuit, with his brother, Thierry Chenal and Giuseppe Montello he missed another international relay medal in fourth place by just one place. He won another international medal at the junior races of the Biathlon European Championships 2013 in Bansko as third in the individual behind Alexander Loginow and Maxim Zwetkow . He finished sixth in the sprint and 22nd in the pursuit race. Later in the year he took part in the 2013 Summer Biathlon World Championships in Forni Avoltri , where he won the silver medal in the mixed relay race with Alexia Runggaldier, Nicole Gontier and Giuseppe Montello behind Russia in the mixed relay race won in the performance area. In the sprint he competed in the juniors and finished ninth, in the pursuit he no longer started.
Nationally, Plaickner won four silver medals in championship races for youth and juniors between 2010 and 2013. In 2012, in addition to three races, he also won the overall ranking of the Juniors' Alpine Cup.
