Benjamin Steuer (born May 24, 1986 in Hainburg an der Donau ) is an Austrian football referee . He is a member of the Burgenland Football Association and is a member of the Burgenland Referees College (Referee Group North).

Career as a soccer player

In 1996 , at the age of ten, Steuer began playing football as a goalkeeper for SV Gols in his hometown of Gols . There he went through several ages. Although he showed himself to be quite talented, he saw no fulfillment as a football player, which is why he ended his active activity again in 2001 because he had other goals in football.

Career as a football referee

Benjamin Steuer, 2009, as Austria's youngest Bundesliga referee.

After Steuer had successfully passed the soccer referee examination on August 11, 2001, he was initially assigned to lead youth games based on his age. There he impressed with his ambition and already showed his talent. When he was accepted into the talent squad of the Burgenland referees team under the direction of the former Bundesliga referee Eduard Freunthaller , he was given optimal support through which he achieved a rapid rise. On March 31, 2006, at the age of just 20, he was allowed to make his debut in the Burgenland regional league (fourth level) in the game between SV Rohrbach and SV Neuberg (0-0).

On August 11, 2006, Steuer was allowed to sniff the Bundesliga air for the first time when he was used as assistant to referee Christian Dintar in the first division game FC Gratkorn against FC Kärnten (3-0) .

Since Steuer also received consistently good ratings in the regional league, he was allowed to lead his first game in the third level, the Regionalliga Ost , on September 21, 2007 in the game between FC Admira Wacker Mödling and SV Wienerberg (2-1) . He was challenged immediately, because Steuer had to send two players, one with the red card and one with the red card, off the pitch. Total tax came in season 2007/08 to eight and in season 2008/09 to seven missions in the Regional League East. After playing both of his qualifying games - in the Regionalliga West on March 21, 2009 WSG Wattens against FC Hard (4: 2) and in the Regionalliga Mitte on May 15, 2009 FC Blau-Weiß Linz against TSV Hartberg (0: 1) - to the satisfaction of the observers, he was accepted into the roster of the Austrian Bundesliga referees on July 1, 2009.

Steuer had his first game in the first division on July 24th, 2009 with the encounter between SKN St. Pölten and FC Red Bull Salzburg II (2-2), in which he showed nine yellow cards , six of them for foul play . In general, Steuer is characterized by the fact that it does not allow any indiscipline to break down. A quality that is also well received by referee observers, which is why he was able to look forward to 14 appearances in the second highest league in his first season. In his first official professional appearance, Steuer lived up to his first name, because at 23 years and 61 days he was the youngest referee ever to direct a game in Austrian professional football.

Tax had already received another award when he was allowed to lead an international match on July 15, 2009 in the Sonnenseestadion in Ritzing with the friendly match between Werder Bremen and FK Jablonec (5: 2). For the first time, he was allowed to sniff international air on July 25, 2006 as assistant to referee Thomas Paukovits in the friendly game between SV Mattersburg and Arsenal London (1: 2).

Benjamin Steuer, who has his great role model in Günter Benkö , the former FIFA referee and chairman of the Burgenland referee board , seems to have his future career in store. Benkö also praises his commitment and achievements, but also knows that this not only requires skill, but also luck and patience. Steuer is ready to take on these challenges.
