Benny Lekström (born February 19, 1981 in Enskede , Stockholm ) is a Swedish football player . The goalkeeper has played in Norway and his home country in his career so far.

Athletic career

Lekström started playing football in Stockholm's Enskedefältets BK club . About Enskede IK he came to the first division club Hammarby IF at the end of 2005 , where he was supposed to replace Jon Rytterbro as a substitute goalkeeper . In the course of the year he had already convinced as a guest player at Hammarby Talang FF , the club's farm team. Behind Erland Hellström and Richard Kingson , he came in the following two seasons to ten games in the Allsvenskan , where he benefited mainly from the injury misfortune of Hellström intended as number 1 in the 2007 season . After his contract expired in late 2007, he moved to second division IF Brommapojkarna in January 2008 , where he signed a two-year contract. Since the new trainer there, Kim Bergstrand, relied on the young man Kristoffer Nordfeldt , he only had the role of substitute here. Only after being promoted at the end of the second division season in 2008 , he came in the subsequent first division season for the club in the league when he again benefited from the injuries of the competition. In late 2009, the club finally extended his outgoing contract for a year.

After the contract with IF Brommapojkarna expired, Lekström was initially without a club, after a trial training at Västerås SK he finally moved to the Norwegian club FK Mjølner in March 2011 . In the third division he was convincing, so that the first division Tromsø IL took him under contract for two years. There he was intended as a substitute for his compatriot Marcus Sahlman , after an injury to his competitor he conquered the space between the posts for much of the 2012 season and played 20 games in the Tippeligaen in his first season . Subsequently, however, Sahlman was again regular strength except for repeated injury-related breaks, which helped Lekström to a total of four games in the following season. After the club was relegated to the second division at the end of the year, he ousted Sahlman and became a regular goalkeeper in front of the young goalkeeper Lars Herlofsen . After the direct return, he was also the goalkeeper at the beginning of the 2015 season , before he had to cede the place between the posts to Pål Heigre after an injury on matchday six in the game against IK Start .

After his contract in Norway expired at the end of 2015, Lekström returned to Sweden on a free transfer, where he signed a two-year contract with the second division IK Sirius as the successor to Andreas Andersson, who had moved to Gefle IF in the Allsvenskan . During the second division season in 2016 , he fought a duel with Lukas Jonsson for the regular place in goal. After eleven championship games, in which he had contributed to the promotion from the Superettan , the club and players dissolved the contractual agreement before the start of the following season in spring 2017. After he had kept fit in the meantime at his ex-club Hammarby IF, he joined the fifth division club Ängby IF a few days later . The stay there lasted only three months, however, in the summer Hammarby IF brought him back to expand the squad after the departure of the previous goalkeeper Tim Markström . Here, however, he was only a substitute behind the ex-national goalkeeper Johan Wiland, who was also signed in the summer of 2017 . After his contract expired at the end of 2018, it was no longer renewed.
