The Oslofjord is a ferry of the Norwegian shipping company Fjord Line that was put into service in 1993 .

history

The ship as the Bergensfjord

The ship was built in 1993 at the Norwegian shipyard Fosen Mekaniske Verksteder A / S in Rissa as Bergen . The hull was supplied by the Bruces Verkstad A / B shipyard. The keel was laid on September 27, 1992, the launch on January 29, 1993. The ship was completed on June 1, 1993.

The ship was built for the Fjord Line, which used it between Denmark and Norway . From 2003 to November 2005 the ship was chartered to the shipping company DFDS and operated as Duchess of Scandinavia on the route between Cuxhaven and Harwich . After the end of the charter, the ship was returned to Fjord Line and used under the new name Atlantic Traveler on the route between Hanstholm in Denmark to Egersund , Haugesund and Bergen .

During a stay at the shipyard in Fredericia (Denmark) from January 6th to 21st, 2008, the ship was extensively modernized and renamed again, Bergensfjord , but continues to sail for Fjord Line.

On June 4, 2013, the shipping company signed a contract with the STX Finland shipyard to convert the ship. In 2014 the ship was replaced by the new Bergensfjord . As a result, the ship was rebuilt from October 1, 2013 for 30 million euros in Rauma and renamed Oslofjord . It now serves the Sandefjord - Strömstad route .

Incidents

On the morning of June 28, 2007, the ship (then known as Atlantic Traveler ) collided with the pier when leaving the Danish ferry port in Hanstholm, after being hit by a strong gust of wind. Nobody got hurt. The ship was so badly damaged that all departures had to be temporarily canceled for repairs. On July 5, 2007 the ferry service was resumed.

On January 4, 2010, the ship suffered a gearbox damage and was stranded. Again, all trips were canceled. Regular operations resumed on January 19, 2010.

Data

The ship is 134.40 meters long and 24 meters wide and has a capacity of 882 passengers, 207 cabins and 150 cars and 45 trucks or alternatively 300 cars. In addition to restaurants, bars and a cafeteria, there are also a cinema and a casino on board and an area with video games.
