Bernd Schmidt (publisher)

Bernd Schmidt (* 1958 in Bochum ) is a German stage and media publisher and translator .

Life

Schmidt studied theater studies , German and English at the Free University of Berlin and graduated with an MA . He then worked as a journalist and editor for various newspapers and magazines (including Zitty , Goslarsche Zeitung ). In 1982 and 1983 he headed the Berlin book forum "ex libris". He is a member of the New Society for Literature (NGL) and was its head of the office from 1983 to 1984. In 1985, he appeared as a dramaturge in the Gustav Kiepenheuer stage Vertriebs-GmbH a. Since 2000 he has been one of the two managing partners of the stage and media publisher.

Bernd Schmidt has translated and edited stage works . In 2007 the SWR produced its radio play Death in Pictures - The Fabritius Case .

Schmidt was a member of juries a. a. at the Brothers Grimm Prize , Berlin and at the radio play of the month of the German Academy of Performing Arts , Bensheim, also member of the advisory board of the Goethe Institute , member of the board of trustees of the German Literature Fund and from 2004 to 2010 Chairman of the Board of the Association of German Theater and Media Publishers (VDB), Berlin .

Since 1999 he has been a member of the board of directors of VG Wort , Munich, and since 2004 chairman of the board of the German Theater and Media Publishers Foundation, Berlin.

He also works on a voluntary basis as a board member of the Günter and Ute Grass Foundation , Lübeck, the Anna Seghers Foundation, Berlin, and the Christa Wolf Society, Berlin.
