Bernhard von Leonhardi

Bernhard August Alban von Leonhardi (born October 21, 1817 in Zschepplin , † August 26, 1902 in Nyitrasárfő , Hungary ) was a royal Saxon lieutenant general and commandant of the Königstein Fortress .

Life

Bernhard was the son of the later Colonel August Carl von Leonhardi, who was raised to the nobility on July 31, 1790, and his wife, a née Seydel.

Military career

Leonhardi visited the cadet house in Dresden and, after completing his training, joined the 2nd rifle battalion of the Saxon Army on July 1, 1835 as portepeef ensign . By mid-December 1845 he was promoted to first lieutenant . After being transferred to the 1st Line Infantry Regiment "Prince Albert" on January 1, 1846, he was appointed Adjutant to the 1st Line Infantry Brigade on April 1, 1847 and exactly one year later in the same capacity as the 2nd Line Infantry. Infantry Brigade transferred. In this position he was on the staff of the commanding general of the Saxon federal contingent in the war against Denmark in 1849 and took part in the battle at Düppel . In December of the same year he became the 1st Infantry Division under transfer as an aide to the bar his regiment as Captain aggregated . On January 24, 1850, he was assigned to the 16th Infantry Battalion as a regular captain and on November 17, 1861 to the Leibbrigade as a major . On July 20, Leonhardi was given command of the 9th Infantry Battalion. He led this association in 1866 in the war against Prussia and distinguished himself in the battle near Lubnow and the battle of Königgrätz . After the war was over, he returned home and was promoted to lieutenant colonel . On April 1, 1867 he was appointed commander of the 8th Infantry Regiment and was soon promoted to colonel.

Shortly before the beginning of the war against France , Leonhardi was commissioned to lead the 3rd Infantry Brigade in 1870 and was promoted to major general as the commander of this large unit . He distinguished himself especially in the Battle of St. Privat , in which he was badly wounded in the elbow joint. After his recovery, Leonhardi returned to his brigade in March 1871 , which he commanded until April 11, 1873. He was then appointed in command of the Königstein Fortress and promoted to Lieutenant General on September 9, 1876. Leonhard was delivered and on 16 February 1884 by his position to him on February 22, 1884, the statutory pension and the permission to wear the uniform of General farewell granted. On the occasion of his farewell, King Albert awarded him the Grand Cross of the Order of Albrecht .

He died on August 26, 1902 in Nyitra-Sarfö in Hungary.
