The Berthelsdorfer Wasser (also the Berthelsdorfer Bach ) is a six kilometer long brook in the Upper Lusatia and a source river of the Pließnitz . It rises in the Zuckmantel district of Strahwalde and flows from there southeast through Strahwalde. When entering the Berthelsdorf location, the stream continues to flow in an easterly direction, over time it has created a 200 to 250 meter wide Mulden valley here . Shortly before Rennersdorf , the Berthelsdorfer Wasser takes another south-easterly course before it merges with the Petersbach zur Pließnitz in Rennersdorf .

Like almost all other streams and rivers in Upper Lusatia, the Berthelsdorfer Wasser is at risk of flooding during heavy precipitation and thaw. If the normal water level is around 15 centimeters, it can rise to 170 centimeters during floods.

fauna

The Berthelsdorfer Wasser is home to some fish species. Minnow and loach can be found on the lower reaches of the stream . Gudgeons can be found in sections with less good water quality . Roach and sometimes perch can be found in calmly flowing, deep stretches of water . From ponds that are connected to the brook, crucian carp , carp and tench occasionally find their way into the Berthelsdorf water. The three-pronged stickleback can also be found occasionally in breastfeeding areas.
