action

Betti's entire Christmas planning gets mixed up when her boyfriend Rolf announces that he “has to” spend the holidays with his wife. The planned trip with her friend is also canceled because Ellen has met the man for life again and is now traveling with him. To do this, Betti Ellen's little dog has to be looked after, but it has nothing better to do than chase the rabbit through the apartment that neighbor Sven had entrusted to her by Christmas Eve so that his little son doesn't discover his Christmas present beforehand. When it turns out that Sven's wife has an allergy to animal hair, she is forced to take the rabbit back into care. Dog and rabbit get on well, but the washing machine hose loosened while hunting in the bathroom and was completely torn off unnoticed. When she discovered the mishap, the fire brigade was already at the door, which was called by neighbor Karl below her. The fire brigade advises the pensioner to move to a hotel because his apartment has become uninhabitable due to the water damage, but Betti asks him to come to her. So the two very different house residents have to pull themselves together and spend Christmas Eve together. Karl regrets not being forty years younger and therefore slips into the role of the protector who opens Betti's eyes to her messed up life. In his opinion, Rolf will never leave his family, although he repeatedly asserts this.

Since Karl still has to live with Betti for the next few days, she takes him on the obligatory Christmas visit to her mother and enjoys the fact that they are mistaken for a couple there. It's also very pleasant for Karl to meet people again, even if Betti thinks her mother and her brother's wife are "embarrassing". Back again, Betti is slowly coming to life and Karl doesn't behave like almost 80 either. Spontaneously they fetch a Christmas tree from the street that someone banned from his apartment on the first holiday. Unexpectedly, they win a four-course menu advertised by a regional radio station. Little did they suspect that this was connected to a live interview with the radio presenter Fabian Fuchs. Karl uses this to open Betti's eyes through her boyfriend. With some subtle malice and threats, he gets Rolf, who is watching the program, to call Betti in front of the microphone and end their relationship.

Even if Betti is initially angry that Karl interfered so much in her life, she is ultimately happy and grateful. She happily celebrates her new freedom with Karl, who, however, collapses due to the exertions and is taken to the hospital. Betti remains sad and alone, but she learns that Fabian Fuchs has fallen madly in love with her and is now trying to find her over the radio. She is not sure whether she should just drive to the radio station, but Karl encourages her, and so Betti finally finds her true love.

Reviews

Tilmann P. Gangloff from Tittelbach.tv rated this production largely positively: “One always complains that in the films of the genre you always know how things will end. In 'Bettis Bescherung' everything is simply different than in common Christmas comedies - especially the dramaturgy. [...] A different kind of Christmas film, with excellent actors, little effort, a lot of feeling and a very likeable sense of humor. "

The critics of the TV magazine TV Spielfilm gave the best rating (women up) and said: "Subliminal irony, concise characters and fresh dialogues - all in all a nice gift." Conclusion: "Funny fun beyond the Christmas kitsch".
