Between the Buried and Me (also known as BTBAM ) is an American band from Charlotte and Winston-Salem . The quintet plays a mixture of progressive metal , mathcore and metalcore . The idea for the band name came from the song Ghost Train by the band Counting Crows .

Band name

The band name is derived from part of the lyrics in the Counting Crows song Ghost Train :

"Took the cannonball down to the ocean
Across the desert from the sea to shining sea
I rode a ladder that climbed across the nation
Fifty million feet of earth between the buried and me "

- Ghost Train from Counting Crows

Band history

After Tommy Rogers and Paul Wagoner's band Prayer for Cleansing broke up, the two decided to look for new members for a new band. In autumn 2000 they met bassist Jason King and guitarist Nick Fletcher with whom they founded the band Between the Buried and Me, which they named after a line from the song Ghost Train by the Counting Crows . In April 2002 they released their self-titled debut album Between the Buried and Me on the German indie label Lifeforce Records , which also contained the new recordings of their first three demo songs .

After the Chicago- based record label Victory Records became aware of the band, the band released their second album The Silent Circus in 2003 . Then they decoupled the song Mordecai from this and released it as a single , for which they also shot a music video . A tour with Converge and Bleeding Through followed . Shortly thereafter, the three founding members Nick Fletcher, Jason King and Will Goodyear left the band, which were then replaced briefly. In September 2004 the band found a permanent line-up with Dustie Waring and his former bandmate from Glass Casket Blake Richardson. At the beginning of 2005 bassist Dan Briggs was added, so that the band was complete again.

In September 2005, the band's third album, Alaska , was released , on which the new line-up could be heard for the first time. In addition, they managed to achieve a chart position for the first time with the album at # 121. This was followed by extensive tours with Dillinger Escape Plan , Every Time I Die , Bleeding Through and Haste the Day , until the band released a tribute album in 2006 with The Anatomy Of . The album contained a total of 14 cover songs by different bands, such as Metallica , Pink Floyd and Pantera , which the band counted among their models.

At the beginning of September 2007, Colors , the fourth studio album by then, was released , which was then voted the best album of 2007 by ultimate-guitar.com . The first live album on DVD followed a year later under the name Colors: Live . In November 2009 the band released the album The Great Misdirect with which the band reached # 36, which to date has reached the highest chart position in the band's history. In 2010 the band was on tour with bands like Underoath , blessthefall or As I Lay Dying .

In April 2011 The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues , an approximately half-hour EP with three tracks, was released as a foretaste of the album The Parallax II: Future Sequence, which was released in October 2012 .

Lead singer Tommy Rogers released a solo album on February 1, 2011 under the pseudonym "Thomas Giles". The album is called "Pulse".

On July 10th, 2015 her seventh album was released with the title "Coma Ecliptic". The album is distributed by the Metal Blades label. The release of "Coma Ecliptic" was followed by a live DVD recorded in 2016 at the North Park Observatory, San Diego, California. The following year Between The Buried And Me toured Europe with The Devin Townsend Project and Leprous and announced the work on a new album. In late 2017, the band confirmed that they had signed a record deal with Sumerian Records and that they would release a new album in 2018.

The album "Automata" was split in half to give fans two releases to look forward to, as Tommy Rogers said in an interview with FUZE Magazine . In addition, the cut on the album felt natural to him as he always stopped it there himself. "Automata I" was released on March 9, 2018 via Sumerian Records and Between The Buried And Me toured with The Dear Hunter and Leprous. A European tour with TesseracT and Plini is scheduled for autumn this year . "Automata II" is expected to be released in summer 2018.
