Beyond the Embrace is an American melodic death metal band from New Bedford , Massachusetts that was formed in 2000.

history

The band was formed in January 2000 by singer Shawn Gallagher and guitarist Oscar Gouveia. Jeff Saude and Alex Botelho joined the group as guitarists, while Mike Bresciani played the drums and Adam Gonsalves played the bass. After the band recorded their debut album, Kevin Camille joined the band as the new drummer. The first sound carrier was released in 2002 by Metal Blade Records under the name Against the Elements . In the summer of the same year it went on tour with Kataklysm , Divine Empire and Misery Index . In May 2003, the group also played in the second half of a US tour of Opeth and Lacuna Coil . This tour also included an appearance at the New England Hardcore and Metal Festival in Worcester , Massachusetts. In April of the following year, Chris Parlon joined the group as the new bass player. In the same year the second album Insect Song was released . The sound carrier was produced by Ken Susi ( Unearth ). The recordings took place at System Recordings in Ipswich , Massachusetts, from December 12, 2003 to February 9, 2004. To promote the album, they went on tour in May as opening act for Prong . However, the performances in Baltimore and Binghamton had to be canceled due to Gallagher's throat infection . In the summer, other appearances followed together with Iced Earth and Trivium . However, the group could not make all the appearances again, as Jeff Saude broke his leg at a festival appearance in July. Saude spent two weeks in the hospital due to a thrombus and pneumonia . On September 24th , a tour with Byzantine and Children of Tragedy began in Charleston , West Virginia . However, the tour could not be ended by the group again because the tour van broke down, the replacement car was also being repaired and the drummer had to be hospitalized because of an infection on his foot. In March 2005 they went on tour with Into Eternity , Single Bullet Theory and Amorphis , before further concerts with Crisis and MOD should follow in June . Beyond the Embrace canceled their participation before the start. After performing with Therion in September, the band split from drummer Kevin Camille in November, who was replaced by Steve Bolognese the following month. In March 2006 it went on a US tour with Green Carnation . In 2007 the band again took part in the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival.

style

According to Marc Halupczok from Metal Hammer , the band plays a mixture of melodic death and thrash metal . In an interview with Halupczok, guitarist Gouveia stated that the band was influenced by groups like Metallica , Megadeth , Slayer , Testament , In Flames and Soilwork . The album Insect Song describes the singer Gallagher's view of the human race. According to him, we are all “worker bees or drones marching in unison”. By using three guitarists you expect better dynamics live . Petra Schurer from Metal Hammer described the guitar work on Against the Elements as a mixture of old Iron Maiden albums and newer ones from In Flames . In songs like The Bending Sea, the group incorporated modern Thrash Metal influences. According to Matthias Mineur from Metal Hammer , Insect Song has a mixture of hard riffs and catchy melodies. The singing is reminiscent of that of Peter Wagner , although the rough singing is also provided with grunts .
