Obertoggenburg
The Obertoggenburg is a sub-region in Toggenburg in Eastern Switzerland with the communities Wildhaus-Alt St. Johann and Nesslau . It is best known thanks to the winter sports resorts of Wildhaus , Unterwasser and Alt St. Johann with the Toggenburg ski area . The most important summer offer is the sound trail, a themed hiking trail with so-called sound stations.
The Obertoggenburg district was an administrative unit of the Canton of St. Gallen from 1803 to the end of 2002 . Since 2003 he has been part of the Toggenburg constituency .
1803-1831
Since the founding of the canton of St. Gallen in 1803, the Obertoggenburg district consisted of the communities Wildhaus , Alt St. Johann , Nesslau , Krummenau , Ebnat , Kappel , Wattwil , St. Peterzell , Hemberg , Lichtensteig , Brunnadern , Oberhelfenschwil and Krinau .
In 1831 the previous Obertoggenburg district was divided into the "new" Obertoggenburg district and the Neutoggenburg district.
