Beer patriot was an Oi! -Band from Berlin . The music of the beer patriots contains strong street punk elements, which were combined with hardcore and metal at the end of their musical career .

history

The band Bierpatrioten was founded in 1992 in Berlin by Schulle, Frank, Jana and Pepe. In the following year, their first demo tape called Immer Breit appeared , which was copied hundreds of times. There was a lot of positive feedback and three songs from the first demo tape were found on the international punk rock sampler Oi! It's a World Invasion! Vol 1. again. The interest of various scene labels was quickly aroused.

On the then non-political label Dim Records came out in 1993 their first official EP Tits out! . Subsequently, in 1994 they produced their first album Randale, Pogo, alcohol . Shortly thereafter there were political differences with Dim Records and the band left this label to distance themselves from various right-wing musical productions that followed. The rights to the publications did not go back to the beer patriots until 18 years later.

From 1994 to 1995 there were two line-up changes. Pepe was replaced on drums by Ille. Jana left the band and a short time later Sören joined them and took over the bass.

1995 Bierpatrioten switched to Scumfuck Records , the label of Willi Wucher ( Mob and Gesocks ). Shortly afterwards they released the 3-track EP Die Russenommen , whose title song was by Werner - Beinhart! - Animated film adaptation was inspired. In 1997, SOS Records released a picture single called From the Dream . The Berlin label Nordland Records, later Streetmusic, released their second longplayer Auf dem Weg zum Hölle in 1998 . On this album , Bierpatrioten covered the song Kneipenterroristen by the Böhse Onkelz . There was some discussion about it and the band had to explain itself about it in interviews more often.

The band's breakthrough came with their third album Geh mit Gott , released in 2000 on Bad Dog Records, which for many is a milestone and a pioneer of today's streetcore scene. Shortly after the release, the band broke up for personal reasons.

The beer patriots played live with numerous bands such as Voice of Hate , Rabauken , Trabireiter , Pöbel & Gesocks , Loikaemie , Broilers , Troopers , Daily Terror and Stomper 98 .

Singer Schulle formed the band Toxpack in 2001 and the remaining band members Frank, Ille and Sören continued to make music together under the band name Turbolover . Five years after their dissolution, the beer patriots played three farewell concerts: in 2005 in Klockow (Brandenburg), a club show in Berlin and in 2006 at the Punk & Disorderly Festival.

In 2010 a best-of called Berliner Prunkstücke appeared as a complete work on Randale Records. There were positive reviews in many magazines, including Rock Hard , Crazy United , Pressure Magazine and Scumfuck Tradition Online Magazine . As part of a closed “90i! Club “event, the beer patriots played a show in Berlin in 2011, which was recorded and released as a live DVD together with the CD Randale, Pogo, alcohol as a re-release on Sunny Bastards . In 2014, the Berlin punk label Hörsturzproduktion released the first demo tape Immer broad as a limited LP. The CD was released on United Kids Records.

In 2013 the beer patriots held three concerts: a club show in Madrid in January and appearances at the “Back on the Streets” and the “Endless Summer” festivals.

reception

The band Bierpatrioten is considered to be one of the “most famous Oi! Bands of the 90s ”. The album Geh mit Gott was recommended by Ox-Fanzine as a "clean" alternative to the Onkelz. In fact, the band because had of Presley covers and the label Dim Records and performances with Trabireiter and bullies , which is a right call was said to have always some problems with the left scene, although Bierpatrioten demarcated from the beginning of the right ideology.

criticism

Martin Büsser criticizes in his work How does the new center sound? the apolitical Oi! scene in Germany. He used multiple snippets of text from Bierpatrioten: first, the album title rampage, Pogo, alcohol as a definition of skinhead life, and secondly the song Skinhead 94 as prototypical skinhead anthem. Büsser chalked the band to recommend the "hunting" of hippies in this song, which is recommended with "ambiguously and clearly censored" beep "". The band was also charged with a patriotic attitude, in this case towards the state of Berlin.

style

Beer patriots were initially heavily influenced musically by the Böhsen Onkelz and British Oi! Bands such as the Cockney Rejects , Blitz and The 4-Skins . Later, the band also processed influences from metal, hard rock , ska , punk and hardcore punk. In terms of text, the typical skinhead clichés were mainly used, even if some texts from the later creative period were e. B. were rated by the Ox as not pathos, but free from clichés.
