The Funkwerk AG was at the German Stock Exchange in the Prime Standard listed. It is now listed in the m: access segment of the Munich Stock Exchange.

Company development and structure

The beginnings of Funkwerk AG go back to 1992, when the Bavarian entrepreneur Hans Hörmann founded Hörmann Funkwerk Kölleda GmbH from operational parts of the VEB Funkwerk Kölleda and in Zossen from the former VEB Funkwerk Dabendorf, the Hörmann Funkwerk Dabendorf GmbH at the current headquarters of the Funkwerk Group . The Funkwerk AG was created on August 16, 2000 and brought together under one roof at first, the two companies Funkwerk Dabendorf GmbH and Hörmann Funkwerk Kölleda GmbH . On November 15, 2000, the company went public, initially listed on the Neuer Markt of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. With the end of the Neuer Markt, Funkwerk AG switched to the Prime Standard segment of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange on January 1, 2003. Since July 1, 2013, the shares will Funkwerk AG in the SME segment m: access of the Munich Stock Exchange listed.

One year after going public, Funkwerk AG received the largest order in the company's history to date. The German Bahn AG placed an order with Funkwerk with a volume of over 50 million euro dual mode GSM-R terminals, in addition to the GSM-R standard also the analogue train radio support. One year later, Funkwerk also received a major order for the delivery of GSM-R terminals for the French state railway SNCF .

In the years that followed until 2008, Funkwerk continuously expanded its business area through organic development, acquisitions and the opening up of new market segments. In the 2008 financial year, Funkwerk AG achieved sales of EUR 290.2 million in the following business areas:

  • Traffic & Control Communication
  • Automotive Communication
  • Enterprise Communication
  • Security communication

After years of rapid growth, Funkwerk also hit the global economic crisis in the years after 2008 . The lack of expected orders, the cancellation of planned investment projects and the crisis in the automotive supplier business led to a sharp decline in sales in 2009 and 2010 compared to the successful previous years. Funkwerk then initiated a far-reaching restructuring program in order to concentrate the group on its core areas and increase profitability again. This also included the sale of some subsidiaries.

Since the completion of the consolidation measures in 2013, Funkwerk has now concentrated on the following three business areas:

Proof of the successful realignment of the Funkwerk group is the price growth of the Funkwerk share, which more than quintupled between 2013 and 2018. Contributed to this are u. a. A major order from the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) to equip Swiss train stations with new platform displays and dynamic visual displays. Funkwerk was also able to once again strengthen its global market position in the GSM-R sector with a major order from the Dutch telecommunications group Royal KPN for the delivery of 1,400 GSM-R train radio systems to the Dutch state railway. In the video systems division, Funkwerk attracted attention with an order from the European Central Bank . At the new headquarters of the European Central Bank, Funkwerk video systeme GmbH installed the complete video surveillance system for the inside and outside of the building and networked all security-relevant components.

The Funkwerk AG is today a Communication Division of Hörmann Industries . At the end of 2018, Funkwerk AG employed over 420 people with an annual turnover of 82.7 million euros.
