Birgit Huonker (born October 27, 1961 in Nordhausen am Harz ) is a German politician ( Die Linke , previously Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ). She was a member of the Saarland state parliament and was responsible for domestic and legal policy in the left-wing parliamentary group. Municipal Politically, it holds the post of group chairman in the council of the municipality Riegelsberg .

biography

Born in Nordhausen , she moved to Baden-Württemberg in 1984 and later to Saarland . In 1980 she graduated from high school and trained as an office clerk in a medium-sized company in Baden-Württemberg. This was followed by a child-rearing phase and the care of relatives. She then studied at the University of Hohenheim and successfully completed her studies as a communications scientist. Since 1993 she has worked as a journalist for regional and national media.

Political activities

Huonker was a member of the Greens from 1986 to 1999, in 2007 she joined the Left Party and worked from 2007 to 2009 as Oskar Lafontaine's constituency employee . Since the founding of the party Die Linke in Saarland, it has been a member of its state executive committee . In the state elections in Saarland on August 30, 2009 she was elected as a member of the Saarland state parliament. In the early state parliament elections in 2012 , she narrowly missed re-entry, but moved up to the state parliament in 2013 for the deceased Rolf Linsler . In June 2009 she was elected to represent her party in the Riegelsberg local council, where she has been parliamentary group chairman since 2011 and achieved the best result nationwide in the 2014 local elections . In the state elections in Saarland in 2017 , she failed to get back into the state parliament and has since worked for the parliamentary group as a scientific advisor for the areas of environmental and consumer protection, justice, construction, mine safety and post-mining . At the end of October 2018, she announced her candidacy for mayor for Riegelsberg. She stands as a free candidate and had the necessary 99 supporter signatures within just five days. The local politician is the first candidate to run for mayoral election in Riegelsberg without the official support of a party.
