Birgit Schwaner

Birgit Schwaner (* 1960 in Frankenberg , Germany ) is a German author and journalist who has lived and worked in Vienna since 1984 .

life and work

After completing her studies in German and philosophy (Mag. Phil.) At the University of Vienna , Birgit Schwaner initially wrote articles, reports and essays for Austrian daily newspapers (mostly “ Wiener Zeitung ”) and magazines , primarily on topics of cultural history , literature and contemporary art . From 1995 to 1998 she wrote, in addition to numerous reviews , the column “on the other hand” for the magazine “ Buchkultur ”.

From 1994 the author published literary texts in literary magazines and anthologies and from 2000 she also wrote radio plays . Subsequently, numerous publications appeared - prose , such as "Lunar Logbooks" or in 2013 the dystopian story "Polyphems Garten".

Her non-fiction books were first published in 2007 by Metro and Pichler Verlag and deal primarily with subjects from Austrian and Viennese cultural history and history.
