The Diocese of Colón-Kuna Yala ( Latin Dioecesis Columbensis-Kunayalensis , Spanish Diócesis de Colón-Kuna Yala ) is a Roman Catholic diocese based in Colón in Panama .

history

With the bull Ad perpetuam rei memoriam, Pope John Paul II founded the Diocese of Colón on December 15, 1988 from cession of territory to the Apostolic Vicariate of Darién and made it subject to the Archdiocese of Panama as a suffragan diocese . It took its current name on June 13, 1997. It has an area of ​​8,167 km² and 248,000 inhabitants, including 178,000 Catholics (70% of the population), 17 parishes, 32 priests (20 diocesan and 12 religious priests). There are 60 religious sisters and 8 major seminarians. It includes the province of Colón and the indigenous territory of Guna Yala .
