history
The diocese of Coronel Oviedo was founded on September 10, 1961 by Pope John XXIII. from the cession of territory by the diocese of Concepción (Paraguay) as the territorial prelature Coronel Oviedo . The territorial prelature was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Asunción as a suffragan . On March 6, 1976, the territorial prelature Coronel Oviedo was raised to the diocese.
