The Roman Catholic Diocese of Juneau ( lat. : Dioecesis Junellensis ) was in the United States located Roman Catholic diocese based in Juneau , Alaska .

history

The Diocese of Juneau was founded on June 23, 1951 by Pope Pius XII. built from the division of the Vicariate Apostolic Alaska and incorporated into the Province of Seattle . On January 22, 1966, the Diocese of Juneau gave parts of its territory to establish the Archdiocese of Anchorage . The diocese of Juneau was subordinate to the Archdiocese of Anchorage as a suffragan .

On May 19, 2020, Pope Francis united the Diocese of Juneau with the Archdiocese of Anchorage to form the Archdiocese of Anchorage-Juneau and abolished the Diocese of Juneau as an independent diocese. The last Bishop of Juneau, Andrew Bellisario CM , was named Archbishop of the Unified Archdiocese.
