The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Matera-Irsina ( lat. : Archidioecesis Materanensis-Montis Pelusii , ital. : Arcidiocesi di Matera-Irsina ) is in Italy situated Roman Catholic Archdiocese based in Matera .
history
In the 9th century the diocese of Matera was established. In the 11th century it was raised to an archbishopric. On May 7, 1203, the Archdiocese of Matera was annexed to the Archdiocese of Acerenza .
On July 2, 1954, the Archdiocese of Matera from the Archdiocese of Acerenza-Matera by Pope Pius XII. separated again with the Apostolic Constitution Acherontia . The dioceses of Tursi and Tricarico were subordinated to the Archdiocese of Matera as suffragan dioceses . On August 21, 1976, the Archdiocese of Matera by Pope Paul VI. with the Apostolic Constitution Quo aptius downgraded to the diocese and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Potenza and Marsico Nuovo as a suffragan. The diocese of Matera was on October 11, 1976 by Paul VI. affiliated with the Apostolic Constitution Apostolicis Litteris of the Irsina part of the diocese Gravina-Irsina . On December 3, 1977, the diocese of Matera and Irsina by Paul VI. raised to the archbishopric without the status of a metropolitan diocese. The Archdiocese of Matera and Irsina was renamed the Archdiocese of Matera-Irsina on September 30, 1986 by the Congregation for Bishops with the decree Instantibus votis .
