The diocese of Nagoya was founded on February 18, 1922 by Pope Pius XI. Established with the Apostolic Constitution In hac sublimi from cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of Tokyo and the Apostolic Prefecture Niigata as Apostolic Prefecture Nagoya . The Apostolic Prefecture of Nagoya was founded on April 16, 1962 by Pope John XXIII. with the Apostolic Constitution Praefectura Apostolica raised to the diocese and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Osaka as a suffragan .
