The diocese of Ostrau-Troppau ( Latin : Dioecesis Ostraviensis-Opaviensis , Czech .: Biskupství ostravsko-opavské or Diecéze ostravsko-opavská ) is the youngest diocese of the Roman Catholic Church in the Czech Republic .

history

It was removed from the Archdiocese of Olomouc on May 30, 1996 by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Ad Christifidelium spirituali and placed under it as a suffragan diocese. It includes Moravian Silesia and areas in Northern Moravia. Bishop is František Václav Lobkowicz . He resides in Mährisch-Ostrau , where a new diocesan center was built between 1998 and 2000.

The area of ​​the diocese contains in particular that area which originally represented the part of the Archdiocese of Wroclaw in Czechoslovakia . This Moravian-Silesian part was only attached to the Archdiocese of Olomouc in 1978.
