The diocese of Sendai ( lat. : Dioecesis Sendaiensis , Jap. カトリック仙台教区 , katorikku Sendai Kyoku ) is in Japan situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Sendai .

history

Pope Leo XIII. founded the Apostolic Vicariate Hakodate on April 4, 1891, from territory ceded by the Apostolic Vicariate Northern Japan . With the Breve Non maius Nobis it was raised on June 15 of the same year to the diocese, which was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Tokyo as a suffragan diocese.

According to the decree Cum dioecesis of the Congregatio de Propaganda Fide , it moved the episcopal see from Hakodate to Sendai on March 9, 1936 and took on the current name.
