Thomas George "Tom" Bladon (born December 29, 1952 in Edmonton , Alberta ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player who played 696 games for the Philadelphia Flyers , Pittsburgh Penguins , Edmonton Oilers , Winnipeg Jets in the course of his active career between 1970 and 1981 and Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League on the position of the defender has denied. With the Philadelphia Flyers Bladon won the Stanley Cup twice in a row in 1974 and 1975 as part of the so-called "Broad Street Bullies" . He is also the holder of two valid NHL records .

Career

Bladon spent between 1970 and 1972 a very successful junior period with the Edmonton Oil Kings in the Western Canada Hockey League . With the team, the defender won the WCHL championship in the form of the President's Cup in both years of his membership in the team . The team qualified twice for the Memorial Cup , but could not win the cup. Bladon only took part in the tournament personally in 1972 . As a result, he was selected in the 1972 NHL Amateur Draft in the second round in 23rd place by the Philadelphia Flyers from the National Hockey League .

The 19-year-old immediately switched to the professional field for the 1972/73 season and immediately received a regular place in the Philadelphia Flyers squad. With 42 scorer points , the defender completed a successful rookie season . The Stanley Cup playoffs 1974 and 1975 he completed as part of the so-called "Broad Street Bullies" , which were known for their physical style of play, by winning the Stanley Cup . Even in the wake of the two Stanley Cup triumphs, Bladon remained part of the team. He took in the years 1977 and 1978 respectively at the NHL All-Star Game in part. Furthermore, the Canadian set two valid NHL records in the Flyers' jersey . In December 1977 he scored eight points in a game against the Cleveland Barons , which he overbid the record set by Bobby Orr about four years earlier with seven points from a defender in one game. Bladon has shared the record with Paul Coffey since March 1986 . He is only one of twelve players who scored eight or more points on a total of 14 occasions. He is also the sole record holder with a value of +10 in the plus / minus rating for a game that he set up in the same game.

After a total of six seasons with the Flyers, the defensive player was given to the Pittsburgh Penguins in June 1978 together with Ross Lonsberry and Orest Kindrachuk in exchange for a first-round right to vote in the 1978 NHL Amateur Draft . There he completed two years of play without building on the performance of previous years. After a disappointing 1979/80 season , the Penguins refrained from any further commitment and let the contract expire at the end of the season, whereupon Bladon signed a contract with the Edmonton Oilers from his native city as a free agent . For the Oilers, however, he played only one game in October 1980, as well as nine more for the Winnipeg Jets in December 1980 . In January 1981 he was then committed by the Detroit Red Wings , who used him with the exception of two games at the end of the season in March 1981, with their farm team , the Adirondack Red Wings from the American Hockey League . With Adirondack, the 29-year-old won the Calder Cup at the end of his playing career .
