action

Katie Gregerstitch, a young woman from a small town in the provinces of America, visits her boyfriend Billy, an aspiring model, in New York City. There she catches him red-handed in an affair and then ends the relationship. Without the idea of a better point of contact, she is drawn to her long-time friend Haley, who wants to become an actress and until then keeps her head above water by working as a bicycle courier. In order to be able to keep an appointment to audition, Haley persuades her friend to do her current job as a bike courier. This courier tour takes them to a large construction company, where the vice-chairman Debra and her lackey Freddy invite them to dinner and take care of them. With hair extensions and designer clothing, they equip Katie so that she can be enthroned as assistant to CEO Richard Connelly. The plan behind it: Debra wants to instrumentalise Katie so that she can overthrow Richard and take his place. In order to achieve this, Debra intrigues to have the previous occupant fired and Katie to be hired. In the meantime, she meets the in-house postman Ben and becomes friends with him.

In the further course, the deputy manager and her assistant make every effort to ensure that the country beauty Katie fails in her sense. For example, the two hire a stripper to sabotage a party. Instead, Katie succeeds despite and partly because of her actions. Katie, used as a lure, also uses Ben, who turns out to be the managing director's son, and saves the day.

Reviews

The editors of Rotten Tomatoes described the film as a romantic comedy with elements of slapstick , which is similar to the comedy The Arms of Women . Otherwise, seven professional reviews were evaluated, one of which was “fresh” and six were “rotten”, which gives a value of 14% on the “tomatometer”. The average rating resulted in 2.8 out of 10 possible points. As of mid-November 2018, almost 4,300 judgments were included in the audience rating, 22% of which were positive. The average score here is 2.4 out of 5 possible points.

"Comedy off the peg that is content with a series of conventional clichés"

Annabelle Robertson of the Christian media offer crosswalk.com is much more detailed and nuanced : Jessica Simpson plays like a six-year-old and beyond all credibility, actors like Penelope Miller or Larry Miller would exaggerate the portrayal of their characters, you can tell by the screenwriters "Absurd, senseless plot" the lack of experience and in view of the body-hugging close-ups of Jessica Simpson it is disturbing that her father Joe, a former youth minister, produced the film. On the positive side, on the other hand, Willie Nelson is named as the Simpsons film father and Rachel Leigh Cook, who were the only ones who played so well that they could lift their heads without shame.

There is nothing redeeming about this film, where the script is badly written, where the directorial work has failed, especially in the case of Jessica Simpson the portrayal is bad and every character is essentially a caricature. Everything is forced and cumbersome and just the scene in which Jessica Simpson pretends to speak Norwegian to visitors is a small reward for the rest of this "totally blonde, totally boring comedy," said Louise Keller for urbancinefile.com. au from Australia.

General Disdain sees it similarly for thecriticalcritics.com , who focuses in his criticism in particular on Jessica Simpson, whose acting skills are comparable to a fish out of water. In addition, Luke Wilson had to explain himself, whose portrayal is looking for a first attempt rather than an actor whose filmography includes works such as Old School or Die Super-Ex . In general, one should avoid the film in any case - even if friends would bear the costs of the rental as well as pizza and beer. In contrast, Newsblaze's Prairie Miller states that Jessica Simpson is playing her role well and that only the lipstick and clothes are a little too thick.

The bottom line is that the film is so bad that it is not only one of the worst films of the year or the decade, but also one of the worst films of all time ( English Just how bad is the latest Jessica Simpson film? It doesn't just belong on a Worst of 2007 list, or even a Worst of the Decade list, but high amongst The Worst Movies Ever Made. " ), says Edward Havens from filmjerk.com .

backgrounds

The film was shot in New York and Louisiana .

The film received a PG-13 clearance rating from the Motion Picture Association of America .

Sales

Shortly before Christmas 2007, the film was shown in eight cinemas in Jessica Simpson's home state of Texas. The cumulative sales of US $ 384 or an average of US $ 48, which is an average of six visitors per cinema at a ticket price of US $ 8 at the time. Overall, the film grossed $ 1,322 on its opening weekend in the United States, which translates into average sales of $ 165 for a total of eight theaters. Of the total of seven newcomers, the film landed in sixth place and 59th on the overall list, only Flakes with 65th place was weaker. The other five newcomers - albeit with significantly more cinemas - all placed in the top 10 in terms of sales: The Legacy of the Secret Book (3,832 cinemas) in 1st place, Charlie Wilson's War (2,575), Sweeney Todd - The Devilish Barber from Fleet Street (1,249) and PS Ich liebe Dich (2,454) in places four to six and Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story (2,650) in ninth place.

Over its two-week theatrical run, the film grossed $ 6,422 in the United States, accounting for 0.4% of total global sales of $ 1,530,479. The largest individual sales were achieved in Russia (just over 1 million US dollars) and Ukraine (just under 400,000 US dollars). At the bottom of the list is Lebanon, where the film raised $ 6,747 at the box office. On its opening weekend, the film was the top-selling in Ukraine. Maybe, maybe not - also a cinema premiere - in second place was around 13,000 US dollars behind.

DVD

A good month after its theatrical release, the film was released on DVD on January 22, 2008. As bonus elements there were deleted scenes and a "behind the scenes" feature. The picture is in anamorphic widescreen (with an aspect ratio of 1.85: 1) and has a weak color scheme, which leads to an unpleasant DVD experience. With the exception of Jessica Simpson's "bubbling lips", the colors are weak and the black levels lack sufficient details. The sound is mixed on Dolby Digital 5.1, dialog and music are satisfactorily separated.

As a distribution film, the film was much more successful in the United States than at the box office: In the first week alone, sales of 2.69 million US dollars were achieved; after six weeks, cumulative sales were $ 11.56 million.

The soundtrack includes 14 pieces, five of which do not include vocals:
