Bloodlust is the sixth studio album by the US crossover formation Body Count , released in 2017 by Century Media and produced by Body Count together with Will Putney . After several unsuccessful albums, Bloodlust was the first album that was more successful and was able to place itself in several international charts.

background

Bloodlust was released in 2017, three years after the last album Manslaughter . As with this, the line-up consisted of the two founding members Ice-T and Ernie C (guitar) as well as bassist Vincent Price, guitarist Juan of the Dead and drummer Will Ill.

For the album, the band again relied on their well-known and often criticized crossover style of hardcore rap and heavy metal , but this time they were much more aggressive. This time the album also features several guest musicians from well-known metal bands, including Dave Mustaine from Megadeth , Max Cavalera from Soulfly and former vocalists from Sepultura , Jason C. Miller from Godhead and Randy Blythe from Lamb of God . With the opener Civil War , the band, together with Dave Mustaine, sketches a civil war that grows out of uprisings against the American government. In addition, with No Lives Matter, there is again a song that focuses on police violence against blacks; he refers directly to the Black Lives Matter movement and reacts to All Lives Matter's reply . In addition, there is a cover version of the song Raining Blood by Slayer , which the band had already played live several times in advance and which is dedicated to the late Jeff Hanneman .

Bloodlust was internationally successful and entered the American Billboard 200 as well as other charts internationally. It was listed at number 157 on the Billboard charts on April 28, 2017, but only stayed there for a week. In Germany, however, the album rose to 13th place in the German album charts and stayed in the charts for six weeks. In Switzerland the album rose to number 18 and was on the charts for two weeks and in Austria to number 24 for one week.

Bloodlust was also able to convince the media much better than the previous albums and was very often compared with the debut album Body Count . Laut.de described the album under the heading "Pumpgun poetry for dark times" and the opening statement "The party is over", which directly characterizes the aggressiveness of the album. You see the album as a reaction to “a deeply divided nation full of racism, violence and social injustice.” For the reviewer, Body Count on Bloodlust “is in captivating form and proves that the combination of rap and riffs is still sparkling in 2017. "If you follow the visions , Ice-T released" with its long-written metal band not only the best album since the 25-year-old debut, but also one of the furious and most important musician statements of the present. "According to you, it is" hard to believe what power this reincarnation radiates, which acts on musical eye level with guests Dave Mustaine, Max Cavalera and Randy Blythe (Lamb Of God). Even the unnecessary but sympathetic homage to Slayer in the form of a medley from "Raining Blood" and "Postmortem" is not embarrassing. "Allmusic.com supports the assessment both in terms of content and music:" There's particularly nothing groundbreaking about the 11-track set but it so cogently reflects the political and social divides of its time that its apoplexy feels unusually palpable. ”(“ The Elf-Lieder-Set is not particularly groundbreaking, but it reflects the political and social divides of its time so convincingly that his stroke becomes unusually noticeable. ”) They sum up:“ It's primal, lizard-brain stuff, for sure, but this is a band that's always eschewed introspection. Bloodlust may be pugilistic to a fault, but whatever it lacks in poeticism it more than makes up for in raw power. "(" That is certainly primeval lizard-brain stuff, but this is a band that has always avoided introspection. The bloodlust likes be fistfighting at first sight, but what he lacks in poetry he more than makes up for with brute strength. ")
