Bohdan Bečka

Bohdan Bečka (born April 14, 1863 in Neveklov , † July 26, 1940 in Prague ) was a Czechoslovak economist, politician, member of the National Assembly and Minister of Finance.

Life, political career

Bohdan Bečka, who initially worked as a civil engineer and in the construction industry - also as a builder - was first a member of the Národní strana svobodomyslná (Liberal National Party), of which he was deputy chairman from 1915 to 1917. He later moved to Československá národní demokracie (Czechoslovak National Democracy ), for which he was a member and senator (from 1925) of the Czechoslovak National Assembly: from 1918 to 1920 in the so-called Revolutionary National Assembly, from 1920 to 1929 in the newly elected regular National Assembly.

On February 24, 1923, he became Minister of Finance in the Antonín Švehla I government as the successor to the late Alois Rašín and remained so during the entire term of office until December 9, 1925. As Finance Minister, he was also chairman of the Banking Committee of the Ministry of Finance. The main focus of his work was in particular the rehabilitation of the ailing banking and credit system in Czechoslovakia as a result of the deflationary crisis from 1922 to 1924.
