Cyril Horáček

Cyril Horáček (born November 7, 1862 in Horní Počernice, now part of Prague 20 ; † May 9, 1943 in Prague ) was a Czechoslovakian lawyer, economist, politician and finance minister.

Life, political career

Cyril Horáček attended a grammar school in the Clementinum in Prague's Old Town , and from 1881 he studied law at the Faculty of Law at Charles University in Prague. After graduating, Horáček worked as a lawyer, then studied economics. 1889-1902 he was secretary in the city savings bank in Prague. In 1902, after his habilitation, he was appointed associate professor and in 1907 professor of economics at the Charles University. 1908–1909 he was dean of the law faculty and 1923–1924 rector of the university.

  • 1918–1920 member of the (so-called revolutionary) National Assembly
  • 1920–1925 Member of the Senate (partially Chairman of the Senate)
  • 1919 Minister of Finance in the government of Vlastimil Tusar I
