Boris Pandža (born December 15, 1986 in Mostar , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a Bosnian-Herzegovinian football player on the position of a defender .

Career

Youth and club career

Pandža began his active career as a football player in his hometown in the youth division of HŠK Zrinjski Mostar . After a few years in the offspring, he moved to the youth department of Široki Brijeg . There he played in various youth leagues until 2004, before moving up to the top of the professional team.

There he came to his first appearances in professional football from the 2004/05 season. In his first season he was with the team in the final table in third place, which meant the starting place in the first qualifying round for the UEFA Cup 2005/06 .

The 2005/06 season went a lot better for Pandža and his team than in the previous season. After a total of 30 league games, in which Pandža was used one or the other time, he was with the professional team of NK Široki Brijeg on the first place in the table. Although the team had only scored 38 goals at the end of the season, which was even below average, the championship title was largely due to the defensive line of NK Široki Brijeg and thus also Pandža as central defender, who only 19 goals during the entire season "Cashed".

At the end of 2006, Pandža announced his resignation from the club from Široki Brijeg ; whereupon he signed a contract with the traditional Croatian club Hajduk Split in early 2007 for a transfer fee of 200,000 euros. In his first season with the Croatian club, Pandža came from the 26th round in eight games, in which he was on the field for the entire duration of the game. He made his club debut on April 14, 2007 in a 1-0 away win over Cibalia Vinkovci .

In the final table of the 2006/07 season Hajduk Split was 20 points less behind Dinamo Zagreb in second place in the table and not only secured the runner-up title, but also a place in the first qualifying round for the 2007/08 UEFA Cup . The team reached the second qualifying round without Pandža's participation , where they were eliminated, however, after a return leg with a total score of 1: 2 against the Italian club Sampdoria Genoa . In the 1-0 defeat in the first leg, where he played the entire second half, Pandža gained his first UEFA Cup experience.

During the 2007/08 season , the young central defender played ten games and received two yellow cards . At the end of the season the team was only in fifth place, qualified as a finalist in the Hrvatski nogometni kup , the Croatian soccer cup, for the first qualifying round for the 2008/09 UEFA Cup . In the first leg of the first round (4-0 over FC Birkirkara ) Pandža was used; In the second qualifying round , the team was eliminated from the current competition, just like in the previous year.

In the league events of the 2008/09 season , Pandža was used more and more and came at the end of the season as Croatian runner-up to a record of 24 appearances, one goal and one assist. He was also yellow carded twelve times during the entire season. His first and only goal to date as a professional footballer, he scored in the last game of the season in the 31st round in a 2-0 home win over HNK Šibenik in the 25th minute of the game via a header . After being watched by representatives of the English Premier League club Stoke City , the media reported that there were good prospects that Pandža would move to England in the summer of 2009. But as was later reported, the alleged contract offer failed and Pandža continued to work at Hajduk Split. He also made it to the final of the Croatian Cup with the team once more, where, like a year before, they were eliminated by Dinamo Zagreb.

During the 2009/10 season , Pandža was used in 19 league games and scored one goal. Furthermore, he played the full length of the game in both games of the third qualifying round of the 2009/10 UEFA Europa League . After that, the team retired with a total score of 1: 2 from the first and second leg against MŠK Žilina from the competition.

During the 2013/14 season he played for the Polish club Górnik Zabrze , but after eleven league appearances, he left the club at the end of the season. On September 1, 2014 Boris Pandža signed a 3-year contract with his former club NK Široki Brijeg . After four seasons there, he moved on to the Croatian second division club HNK Šibenik .

National team

Pandža made his first international experience when he completed some missions for the Bosnian-Herzegovinian U-21 national team . Since 2007 he has also played for the senior national team in his home country , for which he has played 21 games to date. He made his A-team debut on June 2, 2007 in the qualifier for the 2008 European Championship against Turkey , when he came into the game in the 95th minute of play for Zlatan Muslimović . In his second team appearance four days later (1-0 over Malta ) he was on the field for the entire duration of the game.
