The Bozzone is a 20 km long river in Italy in the Tuscany region . It runs through the province of Siena from north to south.
course
The Bozzone rises at Poggio Serravalle ( 620 m slm ) in the north-western municipality of Castelnuovo Berardenga , about 1 km northeast of the Quercegrossa district . It then flows in a south-westerly direction and reaches Ponte a Bozzone at 235 m slm . In total, it remains 9 km in the municipality of Castelnuovo Berardenga. It now crosses the western districts of Siena in a southerly direction, flows under the highway Raccordo Siena - Bettolle (SS73) and the railway line Siena - Chiusi - Chianciano Terme and passes Taverne d'Arbia at 185 m slm . In the municipality of Siena he spends a total of 11 km. A few meters later, the Arbia enters the right tributary . Here he also briefly touches the municipality of Asciano .
history
The Bozzone gives its name to the district of Ponte a Bozzone (Castelnuovo Berardenga) and the Senese district of Pieve a Bozzone ( 215 m slm ), which, however, is not directly on the river. The eponymous Pieve (Pieve di San Giovanni Battista al Bozzone) was first mentioned in 1189 in a document by Pope Clement III. mentioned. The nearby stone bridge over the Bozzone was built in 1367, but today only exists as a ruin.
