Brandon Douglas Paulson (born November 22, 1973 in Coon Rapids , Minnesota ) is a retired American wrestler . He won a Greco-Roman style silver flyweight medal at the 1996 Olympics .

Career

Brandon Paulson started wrestling in Anoka, Minnesota when he was six years old. In Anoka, Minnesota, he also attended high school and achieved some success as a teenager in the regional area. He wrestled then, which was very rare in the United States, in both styles, Greco-Roman and free style. Later he switched entirely to the Greco-Roman style. He was also a member of the Minnesota Storm Wrestling Club . The coaches in his early years were Ron Malcolm and J. Robinson and from 2002 Todd Springer. After joining the United States national team, he was trained by Dan Chandler and Steve Fraser .

In 1988 he was American junior champion in both styles (Cadets = age group up to the age of 16). In 1989 he won this title in the so-called juniors = age group up to the age of 18 in free style, while he took second place in the Greco-Roman style. In 1990 he repeated this success again in the free style, while he again took second place in the Greco-Roman style.

In 1989 Brandon Paulson's international career began. At the Junior World Championships (Cadets) in Warrensburg (USA) this year he took fourth place in the free style in the weight class up to 47 kg. In 1990, at the age of 17, he was already used in the free style at the Pan American Championships for seniors in Colorado Springs in paper weight (then up to 48 kg body weight). At the Junior World Championships in Athens in 1993 he had his first major international success, because he was runner- up in the Greco-Roman style flyweight world champion . In the junior area (Espoirs = age group up to the age of 20) he was again in both styles in 1991 and 1992 and in 1993 in Greco-Roman. American masters style. At the USA Senior Championships he was not that successful in those years. He came fourth in 1991, fifth in 1992 and fourth in 1993, he was runner-up in 1995 and came third in 1996. After Athens he ended his wrestling career. Brandon Paulson is the vice president of a US insurance company. In 2008, the young wrestler Jake Deitchler from Akron , where Brandon Paulson still lives, qualified for participation in the Olympic Games in Beijing , where he finished twelfth in the lightweight. In the spring of 2008, Brandon Paulson took over the training of this young athlete with the intention of leading him to success in the 2012 Olympics .
