Heinrich Wilhelm Breidenfeld
Heinrich Wilhelm Breidenfeld (* 1794 in Niederwenigern / Westphalia ; † June 25, 1875 in Trier ) was a German organ builder .
Life
Heinrich Wilhelm Breidenfeld learned the organ trade from Caspar Melchior Vorenweg (until 1827) and began working as an independent organ builder in Münster in 1826. The rebuilding of the cathedral organ in Münster in 1830 increased his reputation, so that three years later the Trier cathedral chapter commissioned him to build the organ in the west choir. Shortly after its completion, Breidenfeld moved his company to Trier in 1838. With his work he ousted the Stumm family of organs that dominated Trier . His sons Joseph Breidenfeld (1832–1898) and Heinrich Breidenfeld (1842–1906) took over the company after his death in 1875 under the name “Gebr. Breidenfeld ”and built 53 organs, 13 of them in Trier alone.
In total, the family of organ builders delivered around 60 new organs, most of them to the diocese of Trier, some also to the dioceses of Münster and Luxembourg. After the turn of the century, the company got into trouble and finally gave up operations. In 1912 she was no longer mentioned in the Trier address book. Breidenfeld organs, largely preserved in their original state, can still be found in Dieblich, Bekond, Nennig, Thörnich, Schalkenmehren and Lösnich.
