Rancid is a punk band with Ska influences from Berkeley, California . Rancid are considered one of the most influential bands of the 1990s punk revival. Their most successful and best-known album to date is … And Out Come the Wolves , which is heavily influenced by The Clash and The Specials as well as various Ska influences.

history

The band was founded in 1991 by Tim Armstrong and Matt Freeman , two former members of Operation Ivy , and completed by Lars Frederiksen and Brett Reed. Rancid took a break in 2005 because of Matt Freeman's alleged lung cancer. The disease turned out to be a benign tissue change. In 2006 the band was featured with a title on the soundtrack of the gonzo film Fuck the System by director Rob Rotten . The band made a guest appearance on the piece Coppers (Brooklyn Version) on Dr. Israel's album Inna City Pressure . Furthermore, Rancid were also seen in the television series South Park , where they briefly played the title Brad Logan (from the single of the same name).

The release of a new album in spring 2007 was announced on Rancid's website, but due to the change on drums it was more than two years in coming. The new album Let The Dominoes Fall was released in June 2009, and the new drummer Branden Steineckert was heard for the first time. It was again produced by Brett Gurewitz . This was followed by the release of the album Honor Is All We Know in October 2014. In May 2017, Rancid announced the album Trouble Maker for June of the same year. A few hours after the announcement, the single Ghost of a Chance was released.

Some of the band members are also active in other bands. For example, Lars Frederiksen is also a member of the groups Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards and The Old Firm Casuals . Tim played with Operation Ivy (with Matt Freeman ) and Transplants (with Travis Barker ), and runs the Hellcat Records label . The new drummer Branden Steineckert used to be active with The Used . Bassist Matt Freemann also plays and sings in the band Devil's Brigade, which is much closer to Psychobilly.
