Brochthausen is a district of the city of Duderstadt in the district of Göttingen in Lower Saxony .

geography

It is located on the district road 109 between Fuhrbach , Hilkerode and Zwinge , eight kilometers northeast of Duderstadt on the state border with Thuringia and belongs to the Lower Field . The nature reserve Rhumeaue / Ellerniederung / Gillersheimer Bachtal begins at the northern edge of the village .

history

Brochthausen was first mentioned in a document in 1334. In this document of May 22, 1334, Duke Heinrich II of Braunschweig named the place as part of an annual fee. He undertook to pay a fortune (a quarter of a mark) in favor of the brothers Dethard and Hermann von Zwinge from his estate in Brochthausen, which was given under the name "Wrochthusen". From October 4, 1429 the place was a council village acquired by purchase of the city of Duderstadt . Tile Wolf sold the towns of Brochthausen, Kreterode and Huxtal to the city, which from then on exercised judicial and political sovereignty until 1815 by demanding taxes and services. In addition, the ownership of property in the course of the purchase added the economic dependency of the entire district. It was only with the Hanoverian Redemption Act of 1831 that the economic relationship of dependency began to gradually dissolve. But it was to continue into the 20th century.

In the wars of the 17th and 18th centuries, Brochthausen, like the other council villages in Duderstadt, suffered from billeting, high contribution payments and looting.

On January 1, 1973 Brochthausen was incorporated into the city of Duderstadt.

Culture and sights

St. George Church

The Catholic Kuratiekirche St. Georg belongs to the parish of St. Sebastian , Rhumspringe . The oldest known church or chapel building in Brochthausen was built in the 14th century; this was replaced in 1590 by a new building by master builder Michael Goldmann. In 1726 the choir was rebuilt.

The current building was built in 1891/92 according to the plans of the local master mason Jakob Brämer, which the architect Reichard Herzig checked and corrected beforehand. The consecration took place on August 7, 1892 by Bishop Daniel Wilhelm Sommerwerck . The result was a spacious, neo-Gothic hall church ( brick church ) built from locally fired bricks with a choir closed on five sides. The 42-meter-high, slightly set tower extends out of the stepped gable of the west facade. The red brick facade on the tower, nave and choir is decorated with subtle, white plastered surfaces in the window frames and on the ledge. The interior is spanned by a three-aisled ribbed vault and is characterized by its rich neo-Gothic painting, which was originally preserved and restored between 1987 and 1991. The colors of the interior vary mainly in light ocher tones. Floral decors adorn pillars, belt arches and vaulted surfaces in greenish, reddish, brownish and beige tones. Window frames, reproduced ashlar masonry in the nave and a reddish carpet wall pattern in the choir are further components of the wall painting. On the two eastern end walls of the side aisles there is a mural depicting St. Joseph and the Annunciation of Mary. The four figures of saints (around 1730) on the pillars come from the high altar of the previous building. They are portraits of hll. Petrus , Paulus , Johannes Nepomuk and Joseph. Further pieces of equipment are a textile-clad processional Madonna (around 1730) and a late Gothic figure of Mary .
