Brock McBride (born October 18, 1986 in Cornwall , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player with Northern Irish roots, who was most recently under contract with Dornbirner EC in the multinational Erste Bank Ice Hockey League (EBEL). Since July 2017 he has been assistant coach of the Canadian junior team Cornwall Colts from the Central Canada Hockey League.

Career as a player

Brock McBride was an outstanding player from St. Lawrence University in the NCAA , where he retired after four years with 40 goals and 69 assists . In the ECHL he scored 32 scorer points in 27 games for the Elmira Jackals and then played in 33 missions for the Houston Eros and Milwaukee Admirals in the AHL , where he got four goals and four assists. He ended the season in the play-offs of the ECHL with the South Carolina Stingrays , where he scored four scorer points in four missions.

He then played 16 games with the Belfast Giants , where he delivered 12 goals and 16 assists. With the EBEL club HDD Olimpija Ljubljana he became Slovenian champion in 2012 and scored seven scorer points in six appearances in the play-offs. He also played six games for the Vienna Capitals as part of the European Trophy 2012 .

After the 2012/13 season, in which he contributed 15 goals and 39 assists for Ljubljana, he moved to the Austrian club EC VSV . There he scored 21 goals and 13 assists in 51 appearances in the 2014/15 season. He finished the main round of the 2015/16 season with 29 points as the VSV's top scorer. At the end of October 2016, his current contract with SAAM was terminated. In November 2016, he signed a contract with Dornbirner EC before ending his career at the end of the 2016/17 season.

Career as a coach

In July 2017, McBride became Ian MacInnis' assistant coach for the Canadian junior team Cornwall Colts in the Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL). Brock McBride himself played in this team from 2002 to 2005.

Lock

Because of his physical style and temperament, Brock McBride received multiple penalties and bans. Since he started playing at VSV in 2013, he has been banned for a total of ten games. The most famous incident occurred during a game in the Champions Hockey League on September 7, 2014, when McBride knocked down the opposing top scorer Mathis Olimb with a punch after a gang check and hit the Norwegian on the ground twice.
