Bucu is a municipality in Ialomița County in south-eastern Romania .
Geographical location
Bucu is located on the left bank of the Ialomița on the European route 60 (national road [ Drum național ] DN 2A), 9 kilometers northeast of the district capital Slobozia . The Bărăgan steppe connects to the southeast of the municipality , north of Bucu the place is surrounded by extensive fields of grain and sunflower.
History and economy
Bucu was first mentioned in a document in 1580. However, according to findings in the area of the place - called Pochina by the locals - settlement of the region goes back to the Late Bronze Age .
In 2004, today's neighboring community of Ograda was spun off from Bucu.
The economic activity of the residents consists mainly in agriculture and animal husbandry. There is also a furniture and confectionery factory in the village. Modern branches of industry are wood and steel processing as well as engine construction. Current investments are mainly focused on the adjacent railway line and the complete electrification of the community. The projects planned for the future include the construction of schools and roads, the expansion of the water supply and the construction of a large park.
population
In 2002, of the 5287 inhabitants, 5231 referred to themselves as Romanians , 53 as Roma and one inhabitant each referred to themselves as Greek , Magyar and Lipovan .
traffic
Bucu is on the railway line from Urziceni to Țăndărei . Around four local trains per day run in both directions at the station.
