Federal Council election 1989
The 1989 Federal Council election took place on February 2, 1989. It became necessary because Federal Councilor Elisabeth Kopp ( FDP ) had announced her resignation after the Kopp scandal .
The vote
The replacement election was scheduled for February 2 in the United Federal Assembly . According to the magic formula, the FDP raised its claim to the seat. The favorite was the Lucerne Council of States Kaspar Villiger .
