The castle New Riet is the residue of a Spur castle on a rocky outcrop about 1000 meters northeast of Altenriet in the gusset between the Neckar and Höllbach near Nürtingen in the district of Esslingen in Baden-Württemberg .
history
Until 1466 the castle was a fiefdom of Württemberg in the changing hands of various noblemen. It was probably destroyed in the Peasants' War in 1525. The castle was never rebuilt and the last visible remains of the keep were sold and demolished in 1823. Only small remains of the wall have survived from the former castle.
A legend has grown up around the castle, which is said to be the reason for the creation of the pretzel market held every year on Palm Sunday .
