The Hohengutenberg ruin , also just called Gutenberg , is an abandoned spur castle north above the Gutenberg district of the municipality of Lenningen in the Esslingen district in Baden-Württemberg .

Geographical location

The former hilltop castle is located on a long 592  m above sea level. NN high spur about 400 meters from the ruins of Wuelstein .

history

The castle was built around 1200, first mentioned in 1285 and destroyed in 1583 or burned down in 1589. The dukes of Teck , the lords of Gutenberg, the counts of Württemberg (1385) and the lords of Baldeck are named as owners of the castle . It was probably another satellite castle that was built around Teck Castle .

description

The freely accessible castle complex, of which only a few remains can be seen, is divided into three sections and two outer castles . The inner bailey measures around 14 by 44 meters, the south bailey about 26 by 8 meters and the north 23 by 24 meters. The curtain wall was about 1.2 meters thick. There are no remains of the St. Elisabeth castle chapel .
