Burgstall Ginghaus

The Postal Ging House is an Outbound medieval hilltop castle on the western edge of the valley of the Waldnaab . It is located in a wooded area 900 meters northeast of the Scherreuth district of the Upper Palatinate municipality of Kirchendemenreuth ; The A 93 Ost car park on the 93 motorway is 200 meters away . The name Ginghaus could come from Dinghaus , which can be derived from Thing and means office or court house.

description

Coming from the direction of Scherreuth you will find a two to three meter deep neck ditch that surrounds about half of the former castle. There are an unusually large number of stones in this area, which are believed to have come from the castle. The facility has a diameter of around 30 meters, around half of which is still surrounded by a 15-meter-high wall that points towards the Waldnaab .

history

The time of the construction of the castle is not known, sometimes it is assumed that it was a fortress of Neuhaus Castle . Since the remains of an old road could be found north of the castle and on the opposite bank of the Waldnaab , it was assumed that the castle served to control a crossing over the river. A trench three meters deep and seven meters wide, which leads from the castle stable to the river, is interpreted as the entrance to a ford . The suffix -reuth in the village of Scherreuth indicates a clearing area of the 11th / 12th. Century.
