Burke Henry (born January 21, 1979 in Ste. Rose du Lac , Manitoba ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with HDD Olimpija Ljubljana in the Austrian ice hockey league since 2009 .
Career
Burke Henry began his career as a hockey player with the Brandon Wheat Kings , for whom he was active from 1995 to 1999 in the Canadian Junior Western Hockey League and with whom he won the Ed Chynoweth Cup in the 1995/96 season . He was also able to convince in the WHL and was elected to the first and second All-Star Team of the Eastern Conference of the WHL in 1998 and 1999. In addition, he was the best preparer and top scorer of all defenders in the league in the 1997/98 season. In the 1997 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected in the third round as the 73rd player by the New York Rangers . For their farm team , the Hartford Wolf Pack , he played from 1999 to 2001 in the American Hockey League . He was then given in exchange for Chris St. Croix by the Rangers to the Calgary Flames . Even with these he was in the 2001/02 season exclusively for their AHL farm team Saint John Flames on the ice.
From 2002 to 2004 Henry played for the Norfolk Admirals in the AHL, during this period he came in parallel for their cooperation partner, the Chicago Blackhawks , to 39 appearances in the National Hockey League , in which he scored two goals and made six assists. The left shooter then received a contract as a free agent with the Florida Panthers , for whose AHL farm team San Antonio Rampage he gave two assists in 24 games in the 2004/05 season during the lockout in the NHL. For the remainder of the season he was eventually loaned out to league rivals Milwaukee Admirals . For the 2005/06 season he moved to Europe for the first time, where he received a contract with EC Red Bulls Salzburg from the Austrian ice hockey league . In 56 games he scored 25 scorer points for Salzburg, including ten goals.
For the 2006/07 season , the Canadian stayed in Europe and joined Tappara Tampere from the Finnish SM-liiga . He was also able to convince the Finns and fight for a regular place. The following season he began at Linköpings HC in the Swedish Elitserien , which he left after only nine games to play for AaB Ishockey in the Danish AL-Bank Ligaen for the following year and a half . The 2009/10 season began the former NHL player with the Flint Generals in the International Hockey League . After just one goal and three assists in seven seasons, he decided to move to the top Slovenian club HDD Olimpija Ljubljana , for whom he has since played in the Austrian ice hockey league and with whom he played in the first playoff round in the 2010/11 season failed because of his ex-club from Salzburg.
