history

In 1993 Jens Bormann and Karsten Wulf founded the company buw Telefonmarketing. It was entered in the commercial register on December 23, 1994 as a general partnership . At that time both were studying business administration at the University of Osnabrück . One of buw's first customers was an event for which advertisers were acquired. In the first business year the company earned around DM 24,000 . From the telemarketing finally developed buw call center for both inbound and outbound for tasks. The company positioned itself as outsourcing - service . In 1995 the company was transformed into a limited liability company. In the following year, the business model was expanded to include advice from third companies. One of buw consulting's first customers was jpc .

The company was one of the fastest growing companies in Europe in the late 1990s. By 2001 the turnover rose to 24 million euros, buw had 1700 permanent employees at the Osnabrück , Munich and Münster locations . In 2004 the buw group got into economic difficulties, sales fell by around a third. The trigger for the crisis was that Deutsche Telekom transferred the operation of its own call center to Vivento . In addition, buw terminated another notable customer. The so-called “number 1” campaign was then started, in which buw wanted to improve the service quality of its customers to a high level. Customers provided testimonials , and six months later buw received another order from Deutsche Telekom.

In the mid-2000s, buw again achieved double-digit growth rates. The first call center outside Germany was opened in Pécs ( Hungary ). In Germany, for example, a new branch was opened in Schwerin . In 2007 buw employed more than 3,000 people for the first time. In 2008 the event agency dialogum was founded. It organizes congresses for the call center industry and other branches. Further subsidiaries in the area of receivables management were added later. In addition, family friendliness and health management played a larger role in buw's business operations. In 2011, buw's sales exceeded 100 million euros for the first time. At the end of August 2013, the call center in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, was the tenth buw location in total.

In July 2016, the Convergys Corporation announced that it would take over the call center activities of the buw group of companies from Jens Bormann and Karsten Wulf for a price of 123 million euros. The takeover was completed in August 2016 and the two buw founders subsequently left the company.

The subsidiaries buw consulting, buw digital, dialogum and DMM were not acquired by Convergys, but will be continued under the new name under the leadership of buw founder Jens Bormann.
