The Czech Agricultural University in Prague ( Czech Česká zemědělská univerzita v Praze , or ČZU for short ) is a public agricultural university in the Czech Republic . It existed as a department since 1906, as a faculty since 1920 and as an independent university since 1952.

history

Rectorate

The basis for agricultural training in the Czech Republic was laid during the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. As early as 1776, lectures on animal husbandry were introduced at the Faculty of Philosophy at Charles University in Prague , and an agriculture department was established in 1788.

As part of a reorganization, agricultural training was incorporated into the Technical Institute, later the Prague Technical University, in 1812, which began offering training courses in all areas of agriculture from 1845. The independent agricultural department was established in 1906. The first agricultural engineers graduated in 1911. In 1920 the Faculties of Agricultural Sciences and Forest Sciences were established. In 1952 the university became independent and in 1966 moved to the newly built campus in Prague-Suchdol .

The Czech Agricultural University in Prague has been a member of the Euroleague for Life Sciences , a network of European universities founded in 2001, since 2005 . The founding members are the University of Hohenheim , the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna , the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University of Copenhagen, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences Uppsala and the University of Wageningen . In July 2005, the Warsaw University of Agriculture joined the network. Since 2012, ČZU has also been a partner in the EU-funded research project Biofector , it is also the seat of the secretariat of the Interfaculty Committee Agraria , the association of European universities with biofaculties.
